Growing up in Nigeria, I didn’t need statistics to understand the value of reliable electricity, I lived it. Power outages weren’t just inconvenient, they decided our daily lives, often determining whether students could study at night, whether food would stay preserved, or whether businesses could survive. Coincidentally, recently, I spoke with my sister, who is currently in Nigeria, and she complained terribly about power outages and how she hasn’t been able to make use of the brand-new fridge she just got.
